Hi! I’m Jessica Barnett, a pianist and music theorist in Buffalo, NY. I’m a Ph.D. graduate of the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, where I wrote a dissertation about Alberto Ginastera’s serial music from the 1960s entitled “Clusters, Clouds, and Constellations”. At CCM I also completed a cognate in piano pedagogy, studying with Michelle Conda, and a M.M. in music theory, studying with Catherine Losada. I hold a B.M. summa cum laude in piano pedagogy from Drake University, and my primary piano teachers have included Chiu-Ling Lin, Helen Marlais, and Robert Rathmell.
I’ve taught music theory, ear training, private and class piano, and served as a collaborative pianist at CCM, Furman University, Hofstra University, Drake University, and the University at Buffalo.
When I’m not making music with friends, you might find me making homemade pasta, gardening, volunteering at Buffalo String Works, writing an article about Alberto Ginastera. Or, eating wings. And in my spare time, I’m mother to a rambunctious Yorkshire Terrior named Oliver and wife to Brian, a UB professor and fellow musician.
